Autodesk Revit is one of the most demanding applications an architect or BIM professional can run. Unlike games or video editors, Revit relies heavily on single-core CPU performance — the clock speed of one core matters more than having 32 of them.
The CPU: Where It All Starts
For Revit, look for a processor with the highest single-core boost clock you can afford. Intel 13th and 14th generation Core i7/i9 processors (LGA1700) and AMD Ryzen 7000 series (AM5) both perform excellently. A good target is any modern 6-core or 8-core CPU running above 4.5 GHz boost.
- Minimum: Intel Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600X — handles small to medium projects
- Recommended: Intel Core i7-13700K or Ryzen 7 7700X — comfortably handles large models
- Power user: Intel Core i9-13900K — for complex BIM models, large teams, and heavy rendering
RAM: You'll Need More Than You Think
Revit models grow, and RAM hunger grows with them. 16GB is the minimum, but you'll feel it constrained on any real project. Our recommendation:
- Small practice / student: 16GB DDR4
- Working professional: 32GB DDR4 or DDR5
- Large projects / multiple models open: 64GB DDR5
Go dual-channel (two sticks, not one) — it makes a noticeable difference in large model performance.
GPU: Don't Over-Invest Here
This surprises many architects: Revit's 3D view is not GPU-intensive by default. Standard Revit workflows use the DirectX viewport, which runs fine on a mid-range GPU. You only need a serious GPU if you're running real-time rendering plugins (Enscape, Lumion, D5 Render) directly from Revit.
- Revit only: NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD RX 6600 is plenty
- Revit + Enscape/D5 in real time: RTX 4070 or RTX 4080
- Revit + Lumion (standalone): focus GPU budget on the Lumion machine
Storage: Fast NVMe Is a Game Changer
Loading large RVT files from a slow drive wastes minutes per day. Install an NVMe SSD as your system drive and project storage. A 1TB NVMe for Windows + Revit + active projects, plus a larger HDD for archive, is the standard setup.
Our Recommended Revit Build (Nigeria, 2026)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K
- RAM: 64GB DDR5
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti
- Storage: 1TB NVMe (OS/Projects) + 4TB HDD (Archive)
- Cooling: 240mm AIO liquid cooler
