It is one of the more baffling problems we hear about: a PC that behaves perfectly on mains power, then becomes noticeably slow, stuttery or unstable the instant NEPA goes and the UPS or inverter takes over. Games drop frames, the cursor lags, programs take longer to open — and then everything snaps back to normal when the light returns. If that sounds like your machine, the good news is that your PC is almost certainly fine.
The problem lives in the power coming out of your backup unit, not in the components inside your case. - If the power plan is correct and it is still slow, you are looking at a waveform or sizing problem, and the fix moves to your hardware.

Fix 1: Check the Windows power plan
Here is a sneaky one. If your UPS connects to the PC with a USB data cable, Windows can see it as a battery — just like a laptop. The moment mains drops and the UPS goes "on battery", Windows may switch to a power-saving plan and down-clock your CPU to "save the battery". The result feels exactly like a slow PC.
- Set Windows to the High Performance plan and make sure it stays there on battery.
- Or simply unplug the UPS's USB data cable from the PC. The UPS still protects your system; Windows just stops treating it as a laptop battery and never down-clocks.
If this was your problem, the slowdown disappears entirely and you have spent nothing. If not, move on.
Fix 2: Use a pure sine wave unit, correctly sized
This is the real, lasting fix for the waveform problem. A modern PC with an active-PFC PSU wants a pure (true) sine wave. Fix 3: Do not skimp on the PSU itself
The quality of the power supply inside your PC decides how gracefully it copes with imperfect power. A cheap, low-quality PSU struggles far more with a dirty or sagging input than a good one does, and it can mask or worsen these symptoms.
