If your PC sounds like a small hairdryer under your desk, the culprit is almost certainly your fans. Not the GPU, not the power supply — the spinning fans bolted to your case and CPU cooler. - A single fan rattling or whining. If one fan makes a distinct grinding, ticking or buzzing sound, its bearing is failing. That fan needs replacing regardless of anything else — it will only get worse and eventually stop.

- Size versus speed. A larger 140mm fan moves the same volume of air at a much lower RPM than a small fan spinning frantically — and lower RPM means less noise. If your case supports 140mm, use it.
- Blade design. Reputable brands shape their blades to move air smoothly rather than chopping at it, which cuts the turbulent whoosh.
- PWM control. A four-pin PWM fan can be tuned to crawl along quietly at idle and only ramp up when needed. Three-pin fans give you far less control.

The one trap to avoid is sacrificing airflow for quiet. Slowing fans down or removing them entirely can drop temperatures into dangerous territory, and a PC that throttles or shuts down is no use however peaceful it sounds. Quiet and cool are not opposites — they are achieved together.
